Jesness Inventory-Revised

Carl F. Jesness, Ph.D.

Measure of personality and psychopathology in individuals aged 8+

JI-R™

Overview

Overview

The Jesness Inventory–Revised (JI–R) is a comprehensive self-report measure of personality and psychopathology that is applicable to children, adolescents, and adults with more severe behavioral problems and with whom violence potential is a concern.

The JI–R is an easy-to-understand true/false questionnaire that provides valuable information about functioning across a variety of different areas. Its 11 personality scales measure key traits and attitudes, while 9 behavioral subtype scales further determine personal characteristics. Results provide insight into potential causes of behavior and are particularly useful when differentiating between social maladjustment and emotional disturbance.

Key Features:

  • Gain valuable insight into the potential causes of certain behaviors
  • Complete a comprehensive evaluation with both a personality classification as well as a profile of the client's characteristics on several relevant personality dimensions
  • View useful treatment recommendations for each subtype classification

Normative Data

Normative Data

Profile Reports summarize the results of an individual administration, providing scores for all scales.
Interpretive Reports provide detailed information about scores from a single administration, presented both numerically and graphically. An individual's scores are compared to those in the normative sample and elevations at the scale and subscale level are indicated.

JI–R Technical Manual

The JI–R Technical Manual describes the components of the JI–R, including items, scales, research properties, computer software, and the JI–R classification system.

JI–R Item Booklet

The JI–R Item Booklet contains 160 items in the inventory. The Item Booklet is designed to be used with the Response Form.

The JI–R QuikScore Response Sheet

The JI-R QuikScore form is professional-completed and includes the necessary elements for scoring the instrument. The QuikScore forms contain special aids that make scoring of the test very quick and efficient, while minimizing potential for key errors.

JI–R Scoring Templates

The JI–R Scoring Templates are keys that are placed, one at a time, on top of the Response Form. Scale raw scores are obtained by counting the number of Xs that can be seen through the templates.

Reliability/Validity

Almost all studies using the JI–R have verified its ability to distinguish delinquents from nondelinquents. Many have demonstrated its predictive validity as well. Odd-even item correlations and Cronbach's alpha are presented to demonstrate the consistency in JI–R items. Test-retest reliability is presented to indicate the temporal stability of JI–R ratings. Further information pertinent to JI–R validation is available in the technical manual.

The JI–R normative sample included 4,380 individuals from both rural and urban settings in Canada and the United States, of which 3,421 were nondelinquent and 959 were delinquent.
